Week 1 (7/9/09 - 11/9/09)  sm  http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/Belle--Sebastian-The-Boy_1.mp3

The children returned after a great summer holiday and settled into Year 4 really well.  Over the course of this week, I (Mr Baker) began to realise what a lovely class I had inherited.  All the children were well behaved, full of energy and excited to be in school.  All Star this week was Phoebe - I am so impressed with her work ethic.  I am also very proud of the children as they have won the Rocky Rooster award for the tidiest classroom in the school.  WELL DONE!!!!!  ;-)

 Week 2 (14/9/09 - 18/9/09) sm http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/Movie-Theme-Indiana-Jones-Theme.mp3

This has been a great week.  The children have worked enormously hard and produced some great work.  In literacy we have been looking at adjectives (http://www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk/vtc/ngfl/english/monmouthshire/choose_adj_monmouthshire.html) and how we can use and apply them when writing a story setting.  In our topic work we have been investigating the life and times of famous explorers.  Have a look at these websites -  http://www.enchantedlearning.com/explorers/glossary.shtml, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_explorers and  http://cybersleuth-kids.com/sleuth/History/Explorers/index.htm.  All Star this week was Alyssia.  She was chosen because of her consistently good work and verve for learning.  Good girl.

 Week 3 (21/9/09 - 25/9/09) smhttp://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/Yakey-Sax_1.mp3

What a great week we've had!  The children have been learning all about characters and settings in literacy and subtraction in numeracy.  In science we have been reminding ourselves about electricity ('circuits' - http://www.engineeringinteract.org/resources/siliconspies/flash/concepts/buildingcircuits.htm).  The children had great fun on Friday afternoon solving problems involving the use of the adventure trail and baby dolls (as part of  our Outdoor Activities unit in PE)!  All star this week was Jordan for his magnificent start to Year 4.  Congratulations young man!  All the children are trying their hardest to earn 4A the reputation of being the...

Week 4 (28/9/09 – 2/10/09) sm  http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/TV-Themes-The-Simpsons_1.mp3

Fancy improving your spelling?  YES!?!  Then have a little look at this website - http://www.spellingcity.com/.  This has been another great week in school.  The children have been beavering away planning stories in literacy involving Goldilocks and in numeracy we have been multiplying (using the 'Grid Method' - http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/grid_method_wsheets.pdf).  In our topic work the children have been learning basic facts about the explorer Robert Scott (http://www.spri.cam.ac.uk/resources/kids/scott.html).  All star this week was Erin for being... WONDERFUL!

Week 5 (5/10/09 – 9/10/09)   smiley  http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/Manamana_1.mp3

This week Phoebe and lots of other children really enjoyed learning semaphore!!!!! Just like smoke signals and morse code, semaphore is a dying art which really needs to be kept alive. Nowadays we communicate with phones, faxes, emails and texts, so Mrs Boyles and I wanted to show the children that there are other forms of communication that they can enjoy (morse code will be next on the agenda!). "It was really good," said Jordan (http://www.anbg.gov.au/flags/semaphore.html).  In numeracy this week Erin was amazed at how she could use her multiplication facts (tables) to help her with division.  In literacy, all of the children worked extremely hard writing their very own murder mystery novels.  "It was excellent," said Nat.  Elizabeth was the class All Star (for trying very hard with her written work) AND we also won Rocky Rooster for the second time in five weeks!!!!!!!  This is a school record!!!!  Well done everybody!

Have a look where you can find me (Mr Baker) - http://www.outdooradventure.co.uk/education/index.htm.

It's so great to be back in the classroom!  Although I (Mr Baker) enjoyed Y6 camp, I did miss my class.  This week we have been looking at Neil Armstrong's 1969 lunar landing in our literacy lessons.  The children re-wrote history by recreating newspaper articles.  In numeracy we have been doubling and halving (http://www.teachingideas.co.uk/maths/files/doublinghalving.doc).  In R.E. the pupils have been studying the three main Hindu gods (http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/carolrb/hinduism/hindui.html).  In our Topic Work, we looked at Roald Amundsen's Antarctic exploration (http://cybersleuth-kids.com/sleuth/History/Explorers/Roald_Amundsen/index.htm).  Lucy was the class All Star - well done!

Week 8 (2/11/09 - 6/11/09) sm  http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/CC-Music-Factory-Everybody-Dance-Now-1991_1.mp3

What a great week we have all had!  The children all enjoyed watching the film 'Eight Below' (http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2447245593/) as part of our literacy work and sorting and grouping polygons in numeracy (http://www.mathplayground.com/Matching_Shapes.html).  Jessica was the All Star for being such a wonderful, caring and hard working individual.  GREAT NEWS!!!!!  Class 4A won the Golden Boot this week!!!  During the 'WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK' more children in our class walked to school than any other and as a result we were awarded the Golden Boot in assembly.  Well done everybody - you make me very proud.

Week 9 (9/11/09 - 13/11/09) sm http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/EMF-Unbelievable.mp3

Lots of the children have enjoyed doing art this week.  "It was fun drawing a husky," said Erin.  The entire class loved writing their newspaper report in literacy (based on the film Eight Below).  One of the highlights was DT on Wednesday - the children had to design a snow shoe for Robert Scott.  "It was fun," exclaimed Nat!  (http://library.thinkquest.org/04oct/00450/snowshoes.htm).  I (Mr Baker) personally enjoyed teaching numeracy - we were looking at data handling (tally charts, pictograms and bar charts).  Why not explore this website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/maths/data/interpreting_data/read1.shtml.  Congratulations to Daniel for getting All Star and well done to everyone in 4A for winning Rocky Rooster

AGAIN!!!!!

Week 10 (16/11/09 - 20/11/09) smiley  http://www.stanbridge.ik.org/attachments/Black-Eyed-Peas-I-Gotta-Feeling.mp3

The children described this week as 'fab, fun and interesting'.  They particularly enjoyed watching the Anti-Bullying theatre performance on Wednesday.  Sunita liked literacy - we have been listening to Daniel Bedingfield's music (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/danielbedingfield/nevergonnaleaveyourside.html) and identifying similes in his songs.  The children have written some incredible poems as a result of this.  Erin loved the perimeter work we have been doing in numeracy (http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/maths/perimeter_and_area/index.html).  Congratulations to Ethan for being All Star and Alyssia for singing a solo in assembly.

* homework challenge -  draw a car shape (using straight lines) with a perimeter of 30cm.
